Chisinau voter lists to be checked at home
Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca asked checking the electoral registers of the Chisinau inhabitants at home. He made the request at Monday’s meeting of the City Hall. This will be done by the electoral offices in concert with representatives of the Public Amenities Division. The mayor invoked the need to avoid the frauds identified at the April 5 elections, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The local public administrations are obliged to present the lists to the Central Election Commission till July 3.
“To correctly make the electoral lists, they need to be verified at the residence of each citizen, Dorin Chirtoaca said. The Public Amenities Division will be involved in these actions and will offer help, in order to avoid the frauds of the previous electoral campaign,” Chirtoaca added.
Under the law, the Chisinau Central Electoral Office is also obliged to check the lists at home. As the rolls for the April 5 elections were drawn up according to the last census (2004), the mayor thinks that the lists have to be verified more punctiliously.
Chief of the Public Amenities Division Petru Gontea said that the real estates registries should also be checked for each apartment. “Together with the housing managers, special groups will be formed in order to ensure the correctitude of each list,” Gontea said.
A seminar for the secretaries of the Chisinau district offices and mayoral offices for improving the electoral lists and ensuring the smooth running of the early elections will take place on Tuesday, at 10.30, at the Chisinau City Hall.
According to the last census, 3.4 million people live in Moldova. The Opposition parties say that about 10% of the persons included in the electoral rolls for the April 5 elections were dead persons, persons not eligible to vote or persons written simultaneously on several lists.
