Chisinau trolleybus company employees seek dismissal of director
Several dozens of employees of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company Friday had a meeting with the mayor of Chisinau and asked him to dismiss the company’s director Gheorghe Morgoci. The employees are dissatisfied with the working conditions and the financial situation of the company, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We do not agree with the salary we get as it has been decreased by about one third. The workload has been reduced. Earlier, we could work for up to 170 hours a month. Now, we are not allowed to work more than 120 hours. The trolleybuses are old and in need of frequent repair, but nothing is done to change the company’s financial situation,” said Aurelia Strejescu, trolleybus driver on route No. 10.
“We have had such a situation since Mr Morgoci came. Some of the employees are privileged, while others left alone with their problems. I think things will change if the director is dismissed,” she added.
Gheorghe Drumea, trolleybus driver on route No. 22, has another opinion. He considers that many of the employees are dissatisfied because they lost many concessions. “It’s regretful that the people do not understand that Moldova is also in a crisis and therefore our company is in difficulty. Not everything depends on the director. The money does not come from him. Some of the employees got used to receiving new trolleybuses once in 3-4 years and to going on vacation paid from the company’s money. The reality is now different and we must comply and work,” said Drumea, who has worked at the Chisinau Electric Transport Company for over 34 years.
The mayor of Chisinau discussed with the employees of more than an hour. Dorin Chirtoaca said that a part of the blame for the difficult financial situation of the company is borne by the Government that allocates few resources for the capital city. There is not money available in the budget and the Chisinau executive cannot allot other resources. The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) also does not assume responsibility for the created situation and does not review the fares in the urban public transport, which are two times lower than the cost price of a trip.
“The group of dissatisfied employees is headed by the former consultant of the former director Victor Martaniuc, who was dismissed and wants to take revenge,” the director of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company Gheorghe Morgoci has told Info-Prim Neo.
“We indeed have financial problems. Last year, owing to the rise in electricity charges we had additional expenses of about 10 million lei that nobody paid back. After the floods, we cannot finance the vacation at Vadul lui Voda for our employees. We try to survive and economize as we can. We try to keep the people and the workplaces. As the number of passengers in summer is lower, we decreased the number of trolleybuses running on routes. We offer leave to the employees, but dismiss no one. Only the Chisinau Council can help us overcome the crisis. If I knew another director would solve the financial problems we encounter, I would quit of my own accord,” Morgoci said.
The financial situation of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company was to be discussed at Thursday’s meeting of the CMC. But the councilors could not agree on the agenda of the meeting and dispersed.
