Chisinau tourism strategy made public

A street in Chisinau’s Buiucani sector will be transformed into a pedestrian street, akin to Eugen Doga Street in the downtown, and at least three buildings that are national or municipal landmarks will be rehabilitated. These are some of the measures laid out in the city’s tourism development strategy, presented by the the Chisinau City Hall.

Contacted by IPN, Roman Vitiuc, head of the General Directorate of Economy, Trade and Tourism of the Chisinau City Council, said that the number of restored buildings will depend on the budget to be approved by the CMC for the implementation of the Strategy. There are currently no estimates as to how much money would be needed in total to implement the strategy.

The strategy envisages the launch of several tourist routes, both pedestrian and thematic. “For example, the thematic routes will be dedicated to the Professional Day of health care workers, or to women who made a significant contribution to Chisinau. At the same time, we propose two additional routes for the tourist trolleybus, for those sites that are not included at the moment, for example, the Railway Station”, he said.

A mobile application that will be used by the passengers of the tourist trolleybus is one of the projects included in the strategy. The audio guide can be accessed through the application in several languages: Romanian, English, French, Russian, etc.

Roman Vitiuc added that the document also provides for the promotion of medical tourism, capitalizing on the fact that dentistry services, for example, are more affordable in Moldova.

Chisinau’s 2022-2026 tourism development strategy is yet to be approved by the City Council.
