Chisinau to host Summit of Nordic-Baltic Speakers

Moldova’s Head of Parliament Igor Corman and Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Per Westerberg welcomed the decision to hold the Summit of Nordic-Baltic Parliamentary Speakers in Chisinau on May 13-14. Igor Corman, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, discussed with Per Westerberg the diversification of the Moldovan-Swedish cooperation relations and projects to strengthen the democracy in Moldova, implemented with the support of Sweden, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Moldovan legislative body, the two officials also discussed the organization of the Summit of Nordic-Baltic Parliamentary Speakers in Chisinau, which will be attended by Per Westerberg alongside his counterparts from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Iceland. The event will be held in Moldova for the first time and represents an expression of solidarity and support for the country’s European course.

Igor Corman thanked his Swedish counterpart for the projects implemented with the assistance of Sweden in Moldova within the cooperation strategy for 2011-2014, to the value of about €36 million.

The Moldovan speaker paid an official visit to Sweden on March 17-18, at the invitation of Per Westerberg.
