The Summer Berry Fair opens in Chisinau on June 24. Starting at 10am, farmers from 12 districts of Moldova, including the left side of the Nistru, will put on sale their berries in the Park of the Metropolitan Cathedral in central Chisinau. At the first edition this year, the festival will feature raspberry and blackberry, IPN reports.
According to Elena Briciuc, who is in charge of communication at the association K Lumea, the event is held in three editions, in each of the three summer months: on June 24, on July 22 and on August 12, in the same place, starting at 10 am.
The farmers will come with almost 3.5 tonnes of berries that will be sold at personalized stalls showing the locality from where these were brought. They will all be sold at producer prices.
The event will include a gastronomic theater where professional pastry cooks will show what food can be made from berries. The food could be tasted free. Also, the most talented pastry cooks of this year’s Mai Dulce (Sweeter) Festival will come with mousses, tarts, smoothies and other desserts made from berries, while the team of K Lumea will make pancakes with berry jams. Recreational drawing workshops will be staged for children.
Last year, Summer Berry Fair was held for the first time. The three editions involved almost 40 farmers from all over the country, who sold more than 3 tonnes of local berries, while cooks prepared almost 40 kg of desserts.
More than 11 types of berries are cultivated in Moldova by over 700 local producers.
