Chisinau to host International Festival of Theater Schools

The International Festival of Theater Schools “ClassFest” will take place in Chisinau for the first time, during April 4 - 8. It is held under the auspices of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, and the Chisinau-based Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu”, Info-Prim Neo reports. About 90 invitees from Georgia, Romania, Ukraine, and Belarus, and students from Moldova will take part in the event. The festival’s artistic director Svetlana Tartau, who heads the Faculty of Dramatic Arts and Artistic Management, told a news conference that there will be presented 13 plays at the theaters “Licurici”, “Luceafarul”, “Satiricus. Ion Luca Caragiale”, and the Cultural Center “Ginta Latina”. The event aims to promote the young talents and is an occasion for cultural dialogue between the students of different theater schools, Svetlana Tartau said. Minister of Culture Boris Focsa said they plan to transform this festival into a festival of film and theater schools in the future. Petre Guran, director of the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu”, said that Chisinau is an international capital and should host such cultural initiatives. The festival’s budget is 150,000 lei plus the sponsors’ contribution. Entrance to all the plays is free of charge.
