The International Poetry Festival “Grigore Vieru” will take place in Chisinau and Iasi the sixth year. In Chisinau, the event is staged by the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” and a number of partners on May 20 and 21. There will be awarded the Top Prize “Grigore Vieru”, the poetry prize and the prize for promoting the Romanian literature, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the organizers.
The festival will center both on Grigore Vieru’s works and on the contribution of the generation of writers of the 1960s. It will also promote the literary debut of the young authors by the poetry contest “Grigore Vieru”.
The event is intended for lovers of poetry, Romanian language poets from all over the world and translators of Romanian literary. The festival will be opened officially on the Classical Writers Alley in the central park of Chisinau. The National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga” will mount a book exhibition titled “I’m the poet of this nation”. There will be presented books by Grigore Vieru, Nicolae Dabija, Ioan Ciuntu, and Valeriu Matei.
A scientific symposium entitled “Grigore Vieru and his European valences” will take place at the Institute of Philology of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. In the evening, the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” will host the Award Gala of the sixth International Poetry Festival “Grigore Vieru”.
On May 21, poets and writers will have a meeting at the Lyceum of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. There will be launched the CD “Relight the icon lamp” (verses by Grigore Vieru read by Ion Ungureanu).
In Iasi, the International Poetry Festival “Grigore Vieru” will be held on May 22 and 23.
