A forum of ethnic minorities of Moldova will take place in Chisinau on September 18. The issue was discussed on August 28 by Head of Parliament Igor Corman and representatives of the Ukrainian community, which is the largest one in Moldova, IPN reports.
According to the Parliament’s press service, the representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora underlined the importance of ensuring the implementation of the legislation on the national minorities, which, according to them, is one of the best among the former Soviet countries. Another subject discussed was the ways by which the Ukrainian community can contribute to making progress on the path to European integration and to Moldova’s development.
Igor Corman said he intends to have meetings with representatives of other ethnic groups of Moldova. “We want to consolidate our society,” stated the Speaker. “The European integration of Moldova is a guarantee that the rights of the national minorities will be also protected.”
The Ukrainian community in Moldova numbers about 300,000 people.
