Chisinau to host first pride parade

Sexual minorities will organize the first legal public action in Chisinau. The march themed "All different - All equal" will take place on May 11, 2008, within the 7th Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transsexual (LGBT) Pride of Moldova - "Rainbow over the Nistru". The participants will plead for the adoption of an anti-discrimination law, Info-Prim Neo reports. President of the Gender Doc-M Advising Center Alexei Marcicov told a press conference on Tuesday, May 6, that the action is devoted to the 10th anniversary of the organization. Gender Doc-M representatives are hoping that the new Assembly Law will apply to the sexual minorities and nobody will oppose the peaceful march. According to the organizers, the events of the LBGT Pride Parade will begin on May 8 with laying flowers at the monument of the repression victims and will end on May 11 with an tour for the guests of the historical places of Moldova. The program also includes opening and closing ceremonies, officiation of the marriage of a lesbian couple and the International Transvestite Contest "Miss Flawless Queen - 2008". The event also brings together a large number of heterosexual persons, said the executive director of the Gender Doc-M Center, Boris Balanetkii. This year the festival will be joined by guests from Sweden, Canada, Russia, Romania, Belgium, Israel, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan. The festival is sponsored by the Swedish Helsinki Committee , the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency(SIDA), Gay and Lesbian Association "COC" from the Netherlands and "ILGA-Europe".
