Athletes from six countries will take part in the Open European GTF Taekwondo Cup that will be held in Chisinau on April 13 and 14, IPN reports.

“International competitions have been staged since 2009. This year we decided to organize a European cup that will bring together 23 sports clubs. Moldova will be represented by clubs from Hancesti, Calarasi, Ungheni, Balti, and Chisinau,” the president of the National Taekwondo Federation Ion Postu told a news conference on April 11.

About 350 athletes, mainly from Russia, announced their intention to take part in the competition that is designed for children, juniors and seniors. For the second consecutive year, there will be staged contests between veterans, older than 36.

The opening ceremony will include boxing and judo demonstrations, with special invitees. The president of the Taekwondo Federation of Russia is among the event’s invitees.

Organized by the National Taekwondo Federation, the competition will take place at the Sports Complex “Alexia”. Moldova has eight taekwondo clubs with about 800 pupils.
