Chisinau to host CinePOLSKA Festival on November 4-9

A number of Polish films awarded recently in Poland and the world will be screened within the CinePOLSKA Festival in Chisinau during November 4-9. The motto of the 12th festival is “Stories of the present”, IPN reports.

The festival is organized by the Polish Institute inBucharest and the Polish Filmmakers Association in cooperation with the Embassy of Poland in Chisinau. According to the organizers, films that distinguish themselves by their artistic quality and top-level cast will be shown during the six-day festival. They were appreciated by juries of many festivals and by film critics and attracted numerous spectators in Polish and European cinema halls.

“This year’s films are first of all captivating stories about people confronted by difficult choices that make the spectator be excited, ponder over, but also amuse himself. The action of most of these takes place in the present day. These films, which tell about the past, addressing thus the problems of history, have a universal and very topical message,” explained Agnieszka Skieterska, director of the Polish Institute in Bucharest.

A photo exhibition dedicated to film director Krzysztof Kieślowski, prepared by the In Situ Foundation, will be mounted within the festival. The exhibit will be staged on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the director’s birth and on the 20th anniversary of his death.

CinePOLSKA will take place at the Odeon Cinema in Chisinau. All the films will be shown with Romanian subtitles. The screenings start at 7pm. Entrance is free of charge.

In the spring of 2017, CinePOLSKA will take place in Balti, where spectators will be able to watch a selection of films presented in Chisinau this year.
