Chisinau, Tiraspol to step up crime combating measures

The political representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol Eugen Carpov and Nina Shtanski agreed to step up the activity of the working group for combating crime. The decision was taken in a bilateral meeting in Chisinau on May 28, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Reintegration Office, the meeting centered on the situation in the Security Zone and the interaction of the bodies responsible for maintaining public order. Eugen Carpov stressed that the exerting of pressure on the representatives of the Moldovan authorities does not contribute to maintaining stability.

“The dialogue is the most important, while the communication should help overcome the blockage. The cooperation between the police bodies in Bender is imperative,” said Eugen Carpov.

The political representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol agreed to hold consultations with the delegations to the Joint Control Commission so as to identify solutions for normalizing the situation. Eugen Carpov pleaded for the coordination of the actions concerning the redeployment of military contingents in the Security Zone, including those involved in the peacekeeping mission.

The Moldovan official proposed making an objective analysis of the situation in the Security Zone to see if the agreements reached within the peacekeeping mechanism are obeyed. Such an analysis will be useful for ensuring transparency and eliminating the violations committed in the Security Zone.
