Students from a number of education institutions of Chisinau learned to give first aid within a mini-project carried out by a group of young people who are beneficiaries of a transfrontier project implemented by the Chisinau Social Services Center for Child and Family (CSSCF) and the Cote Foundation of Romania.
Project leader Vadim Cosman told a news conference at IPN that now, at the end of this project, he can say that he is delighted by the experiences he lived. “The project idea came to my mind when a mate of mine fainted and not many of us knew how to give her first aid. We then realized that it wasn’t a single case. I understood that each of us can give a chance to life when there is no specialist nearby,” he stated.
The project consisted of free first aid giving courses for students, held in several education institutions. The project’s team distributed thematic brochures through the city and created a series of groups on social networking sites.
Another mini-project implemented within the transfrontier project was aimed at preventing trafficking in human beings. Team leader Galina Cimbir said most of the young people go abroad to earn money and often work illegally there. In many cases they become victims of traffickers. The young woman and her team visited schools and told the students how cases of human trafficking can be prevented. There were held flashmob meeting and distributed informative brochures about trafficking.
Ten mini-projects were chosen to be financed. Five of these were implemented in Moldova, while the other five in Romania.
The transfrontier project was aimed at increasing the capacities of young people from the transfrontier area (Romania – Moldova) to become actively involved in community life. The beneficiaries were selected from among institutionalized young people and people coming from poor families or whose parents work abroad.
The total budget of the project was €150,000. The EU provided €135,000 in financing, while the local communities contributed the rest of the sum.
