Chisinau-Stăuceni road blocked by protesters

Update /1:47pm/ The police said the street that goes from Chisinau to Stăuceni was unblocked for vehicle traffic.

(Initial news item) The persons who were heading for Chisinau to take part in a protest planned by the National Movement for People blocked the street going from Stăuceni to the capital, barring this way the entrance to the city, IPN reports.

The General Police Inspectorate said the persons do not comply with the legal requests of the police and behave violently towards police officers. “We not that such actions cannot be accepted given that this is an important street that ensures connection with the capital city and the rest of the citizens should not be hindered from travelling, in particular the special emergency services,” the Inspectorate noted in a press release.

Earlier, the police said that most of the vehicles by which citizens are taken to Chisinau from the direction of Cimișlia had been reequipped and do not meet the technical requirements. The police initiated the documentation procedures and do not allow the vehicles to go further as cases of accidents, explosions in units of transport and other cases involving such vehicles had been reported earlier.

The police earlier today announced that an official delegation will be visiting the Republic of Moldova during February 28 – March 2 and access to the central arteries and adjoining streets of Chisinau will be this way limited and protest rallies could not be held there.

The National Movement for People, which consists of a number of political parties, planned to stage a protest in front of the Chisinau City Hall today, starting at 12:30pm.
