The authorities in Chisinau have sent a new formal note to the chief negotiator of Tiraspol and other participants in the 5+2 talks to condemn the illegal detention and treatment of Adrian Glijin.
The note deplores the failure to present detailed information on this case as well as the fact that the repeated requests for Glijin to be released have remained unanswered.
Although in December 2021 Glijin was briefly allowed to see his mother, his health and the reasons for his imprisonment have remained unclarified, and subsequent contacts have been restricted, including with close relatives and defenders.
“It has been noted that Adrian Glijin is facing health problems that are aggravated by inhumane conditions of detention and it has been reiterated the need to ensure the possibility of his examination by independent medical staff, who would also provide qualified assistance. Attention has been drawn to the fact that in connection with the abusive violation of Adrian Glijin’s inalienable rights and freedoms, the European Court of Human Rights is examining his individual case and, respectively, urgent action is needed to restore violated rights and achieve positive results”, the Reintegration Bureau said in a press release.
Adrian Glijin was abducted on October 7, 2020, by Tiraspol’s security forces. For almost a year, the family knew nothing about him, his whereabouts, how he was feeling, or whether he was alive at all. The Ministry of the Interior speculated at the time that the series of abductions in October 2020, including that of Adrian Glijin, were in retaliation for the conviction by a Moldovan court of a former police officer from the Transnistrian region on abduction and torture charges.
