Chisinau seeking larger quota on duty-free export of wine to EU

Moldova is negotiating for an increase in the quota on the export of duty-free wine to the European Union – from 1 million decaliters in 2010 to 1.5 million decaliters in 2011 and 2 million in 2012, Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac said in a meeting with representatives of 18 companies that export wine to the EU, Info-Prim Neo reports. The deputy minister said the quota set by the EU within the autonomous trade preferences for this year has been almost used up. The authorization export is issued free of charge for every consignment according to the principle of first come, first served. The Ministry of Economy records exporters' applications in the order in which they are submitted and the issued authorizations. From November 1, the export authorizations will be issued by the Licensing Chamber that is subordinated to the Ministry of Economy.
