Chisinau school year to start with lesson on Doina and Ion Aldea-Teodorovici
The first lesson of the new school year in Chisinau, which is scheduled to start on September 3, will be dedicated to the memory of the famous singing couple Doina and Ion Aldea-Teodorovici, “champions of national values”, announced Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, the head of the municipal education division.
While supporting the idea in principle, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said that the first day of school should rather be destined for organizational matters so that pupils knew, for example, where to take their textbooks from and the like. Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb explained that the day of August 30 was reserved for precisely such matters.
2012 has been declared the Year of Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici to mark their 20th death anniversary. On 30 October 1992, an ugly car accident took the lives of perhaps the most famous couple in Moldova's modern history. In late 1980s and early 1990s, Ion and Doina's patriotic songs inspired thousands to seek Moldova's independence from the Soviet Union and the collapse of the barbed wire fence along the border with Romania.
