Chisinau residents will pay more for waste disposal starting December 1

Starting with December 1 inhabitants of the capital city and suburban areas will pay more for the domestic waste disposal. The Motorsanitation Division is promising instead to improve the quality of the provided services. The decision adopted on Tuesday, November 27, at the meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council does not stipulate explicitly an increase in charges, but sets new quotas for domestic waste in Chisinau municipality. Motorsanitation Director Tudor Maniv says the present quotas of 1m3 of domestic waste per resident of apartment blocks annually and 2m3 per resident in the private sector were fixed back in 1986 and are outdated as the situation has changed meanwhile. The content of waste has also changed. Under the new economic circumstances, there are now tetra pack packages and plastic bottles. This way, the Division is daily transporting by 1000 m3 more than the established volume, Tudor Maniv specified. The CMC decision stipulates doubling the quotas of domestic waste. Respectively, the price paid by the beneficiaries will indirectly increase from 2.80 lei to 5.60 lei per month for each resident of apartment blocks, and from 5.8 lei to 11.2 lei monthly for each resident in the private sector. The Motorsanitation Division promises to evacuate the waste 3 times per day, as compared to 2 times at present. The decision will be in effect from December 1.
