After about two hours of debates, the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) Wednesday adopted the regulations concerning the payment of nominative compensations for trips by public means of transport to vulnerable groups of people. Under the regulations, the persons on a monthly income lower than 1,450 lei will receive by 70 lei a month, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said that the procedure for applying for compensations is very simple. The potential beneficiaries will submit the copy of the identity card and of the pensioner’s card, the invalid’s card, the salary certificate or the certificate showing that they are unemployed to the Social Assistance Division. Under a series of laws, the veterans will further travel by public means of transport free of charge, as the children younger that 7. An application was submitted to the Parliament, asking that the legislation be modified so that the concessions for veterans are also eliminated in order to ensure equity in the society, the mayor said. The term for applying for compensations is two months, but it could be extended if not all the applicants manage to file the necessary documents. While discussing the regulations, Communist councilor Valery Pavlov said that the nation that rejected its elderly peoeple will not be able to make progress. Speaking on behalf of the faction of the Communists Party in the CMC, Pavlov asked that the regulations be abandoned. He announced that the Communists refuse to accept it. The pensioners who protest against the rise in water and sewerage charges and the cancellation of concessions blocked the central boulevard for traffic near the Chisinau City Hall during two consecutive days. They said they will continue doing so the next days until the Chisinau councilors do not annul the decisions approved two weeks ago, which come into force on October 1.
