Chisinau residents complain about Cantemir market

About 2,000 inhabitants of Chisinau living near the market located on Cantemir Blvd. complain that they do not have access to the street, there is noise and garbage everywhere and a pack of dogs guarding the market barks every night. In an attempt to remedy the situation, the Chisinau City Hall will convene the officials in charge and the dwellers on August 17. The decision was made after a dweller of the six apartment buildings situated near the market brought a list of about 2,000 signatures put by persons dissatisfied with the conditions in which they live. Vladimir Nirca, the head of the Service Provision Division, said the plot on which the market is situated was allotted to the company Extremum to build a shopping center on. But the company decided to set up a market with 1,200 selling places until starting the construction of the center. Later, the company complained to the City Hall that it cannot begin the construction works and asked that it is allotted a plot on Ismail St to open a new market and transfer a part of the traders there. The second market was to work by April 1, 2010, but the company did not start building the center either. Moreover, it joined the two markets. Besides, a number of unauthorized parking lots were set up on Cantemir Blvd., Nirca said, adding that the lease for the plot on which the first market is located expires in October. The head of Centru district Vladimir Sarban took the dwellers' side, saying the situation has worsened significantly. The situation at Cojocarilor market in Rascani district is much the same. The dwellers of the apartment building No. 6 located on Cojocarilor St demand that the market be removed as it expanded and occupies the sidewalks as well.
