Chisinau resident fined for smuggling contraband from Italy

An inhabitant of Chisinau was fined 16,000 lei for smuggling footwear and clothes from Italy into Moldova. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the contraband to the value of almost 1 million lei was confiscated for the benefit of the state.

Last autumn, the police stopped a bus that was conveying unaccompanied parcels from Italy to Moldova on the Chisinau-Leuseni road. When checking the vehicles, they found undeclared goods made in Italy to the value of 941,000 lei.

Contacted by IPN, Persecutor of Hancesti Remus Moroz said the contraband will be sold and the money will be transferred to the state budget. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
