Authorities in Chisinau have reiterated their openness to participate in a new round of negotiations in the 5+2 format and have an interactive dialogue at the next Bavaria Conference in order to promote confidence-building measures. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian during a meeting with Artur Dmochowski, Special Envoy of the Polish rotating OSCE Chairmanship.
According to a press release from the Reintegration Policy Bureau, the interlocutors exchanged views on a number of current issues in the Transnistrian settlement and how Chisinau stands on them. “Moldova continues to rely on the support of the OSCE Chairmanship to boost processes in the Transnistrian settlement and address current issues in the interests of residents on both banks of the Nistru”, said Oleg Serebrian, adding that free movement, human rights, educational institutions and the situation of farmers in Dubasari district are priority topics for Chisinau.
Deputy Prime Minister Serebrian also reiterated Moldova’s firm commitment to achieve a comprehensive, peaceful and sustainable settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, within its internationally recognized borders.
Special Envoy Dmochowski was accompanied by Poland’s Ambassador to Moldova Bartłomiej Zdaniuk, and the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Claus Neukirch.
Artur Dmochowski also met with Moldova’s Deputy Speaker Mihai Popșoi, who mentioned the need to resume talks on the disposal or withdrawal of ammunition from the Cobasna depots. The official expressed his firm confidence that during this year, with joint efforts, the dialogue in the political negotiations of the Transnistrian settlement process will gather momentum. “Among the priorities are freedom of movement, access to agricultural land, education, telecommunications and ensuring respect for human rights”, said Mihai Popșoi.
