The program “Chisinau reads a book” that is implemented by the Municipal Library “B.P. Hasdeu” is at its seventh edition. In 2011, Chisinau read the books “The lost one” by Aurelian Silvestru and “The devil is politically correct” by Savatie Bashtovoy. “The initial goal was to choose a book that would be read by as many residents of Chisinau as possible, but during the last few years we could not limit ourselves to one book and proposed two books,” Parascovia Onciu, director of the Library “Transylvania”, which is a branch of the Library “B.P. Hasdeu”, has told Info-Prim Neo. “Chisinau reads a book” is a reading program that aims to involve as many readers as possible in reading a book that is selected in concert with the Writers Union and with publishing houses. It includes different cultural activities, presentations of books, meetings with writers and debates. The program ends with a summing up conference where the readers and the writers can exchange opinions. On November 23, the readers discussed with the author of the novel “The lost one”. “They say we are a people that does not read much, but this is not true. There are many Moldovans who read. My book centers on the man, faith and Church. I think that only by love, faith and kindness, can a man know the truth and not be afraid of the darkness,” Aurelian Silvestru said in a meeting with the readers at the Library “Transylvania”. Attending the event, writer Nicolae Dabija said that Aurelian Silvestru is an author who writes necessary books. “He is an encyclopedist. The readers can learn many things from his books. I consider him the best psychologist and pedagogue in the country,” he stated. Since the program was launched in 2005, there were read books by Aureliu Busuioc, Nicolae Dabija, Nicolae Popa, Iurie Colesnic and other writers. Libraries in Ungheni and Soroca implement similar projects in the two districts.
