Chisinau ranked 46th among most expensive Central and Eastern European cities to live in

Chisinau was placed 46th among 50 cities with the highest cost of living in Central and Eastern Europe, based on daily routine costs, such as food products, internal travel and rent, IPN reports.

The rankings were produced by Numbeo, which is the world’s largest cost of living database. Numbeo is also a crowd-sourced global database of quality of life informations including housing indicators, perceived crime rates, and quality of healthcare, among many other statistics.

Chisinau is the only locality of Moldova that was included in the rankings.

The source noted that a four-member family in Chisinau can live on 27,173 lei a month without payments for dwelling, according to data entered by its contributors. The monthly costs per person amount to 8,063 lei, without rent.

Among Romanian cities, Cluj-Napoca is ranked 18th, Bucharest – 19th, Constanta – 28th, Iasi – 29th, Brasov – 31st, Sibiu – 32nd, Timisoara – 33rd. In the other neighboring country, Ukraine, Kiev is placed 37th, Odessa – 45th, Kharkiv – 47th, Lviv – 48th.

The rankings are based on percentage calculations where New-York represents the 100% standard. Prague is the most expensive Central and Eastern European city to live in.
