Chisinau publication launches “A Martisor for a Book” campaign
The newspaper “Ziarul de Garda” announces an open-door day and invites kind-hearted people to take part in the charity campaign “A Martisor for a Book” on February 28. The books that will be collected as part of the campaign will be donated to the women penitentiary in Rusca and to a high school in southern Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
About 300 women that live a part of their life in the Rusca penitentiary need help to overcome this difficult period. The staff of “Ziarul de Garda” is convinced that a good book can become a spiritual guide and an impetus to change given that 90% of the prisoners in Rusca can read and dozens of them have higher education, a communiqué from the publication says.
The penitentiary’s library consists mainly of old books and it needs books in Romanian. The paper’s team is waiting for all of those that have a book to donate to help the female prisoners change their lives.
The campaign is also intended for the 360 students of the Romanian-language high school “Luceafrul” in Vulcanesti, which borders the EU. They are in need of books that will increase their knowledge about the world of which they dream. A book from the library of the readers of “Ziarul de Garda” could get to the library of a student of this high school.
Every year as Spring begins, “Ziarul de Garda” organises campaigns to collect books for a school, a library or other Moldovan institutions that need books in Romanian.
