The General Public Amenities Division of Chisinau has enough workers. However, during the last few years it has pleaded for the mechanization of the cleanup process. Equipment to ease the personnel’s work has been purchased, the head of the Division’s Territorial Development and Cleanup Section Vasile Efros has told IPN.
Vasile Efros noted that without the involvement of workers, the cleanup process is not possible as there are areas where mechanized work cannot be done. Nevertheless, they tend to mechanize the process as it is more efficient and dependence on the human factor is avoided. For example, three-four persons need to be involved in the cleanup on a curb or sidewalk on a section of 1 km. These persons sweep, gather and load vegetal waste. With automated equipment, the cleanup time is reduced to 10-15 minutes and only one person is needed to maneuver the equipment.
According to Vasile Efros, the salary of workers depends on the length of service and workload and ranges from 3,000 to 6,000 lei a month. There were received no complaints about pays so far.
Public Amenities Division head Ion Burdiumov said a worker’s eight-hour programs starts at 6am. For additional work, the employees get bonuses to salaries, depending on the financial possibilities of the municipal budget.
In Chisinau, about 400 workers and 40 tractor trailers are daily involved in the leaves gathering process. These works usually end in the second half or even at the end of December.
