Chisinau Prosecutor: Corrupt judges and prosecutors belong in prison

Ion Diacov, the Prosecutor of Chisinau Municipality, says that judges and prosecutors are getting a piece of the pie in the illegal drug trade. Diacov told a press conference on Monday that some judges issue rulings that allow those involved in drug trade to get off scot-free.

Estimating illegal drug trade at 12 million lei daily, Ion Diacov said efforts to combat it are being frustrated by some corrupt judges, who often place suspects under house arrest, for instance, instead of placing them in custody, and as a result many abscond from justice.

Ion Diacov says judges, prosecutors and police officers should be put behind bars for acts of corruption. He gave the example of torture, whose instances have diminished with perpetrators getting real, custodial sentences.
