Chisinau professional parent assistance service covers 37 children

More than 200 children benefitted from the professional parent assistance service of the municipality of Chisinau so far, with 87 professional parents assistants being involved in it. Currently, the service covers 37 children who are in the care of 34 active assistants. The data were presented in the September 14 meeting of officials of municipal services, IPN reports.

Deputy mayor of Chisinau Angela Kutasevici said that it has been recently 20 years since the launch of the professional parent assistance service. This is a social service intended for children without parental care or who temporarily cannot live together with their parents. The service was founded by a decision of the Chisinau City Hall in cooperation with the European Child’s Trust, currently the public association “Partnerships for each Child”.

The functionary noted that the professional parent assistance is a specialized social service that offers the children substitutive family care in the family of a professional parent assistant and includes the placing of these in an alternative family for a determined period of time, while the biological parents are facing different problems.

In another development, Angela Kutasevici said that the municipal Children’s Rights Protection Division last week examined over 20 complaints about physical, emotional and sexual abuse, negligence, trafficking etc. Specialists examined seven disputes concerning the child’s right to communicate with parents, grandparents, siblings and the other relatives who live separately from the child.
