Chisinau pensioners deprived of state benefit for heat

The old persons from Chisinau, even those with the lowest old age pensions, cannot apply for the benefit for heat provided by the state if they receive compensations for heat or other allowances from the local authorities. A simple calculation shows that if adding the compensation for heat provided by the Chisinau administration (40% of the bill – about 400 lei for a two-room apartment or 300 lei for a one-room apartment) to the minimum pension of 594 lei, the sum exceeds 742 lei, which is the highest income for which compensations are offered. Thus, the Chisinau pensioners, with small exceptions, are not entitled to state benefit for heat. The situation in the municipality of Balti and other settlements where the local authorities provide compensations for heat is much the same. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga confirmed that it is for the first time this year that the support provided by the local authorities is taken into account when calculating the monthly incomes of the potential recipients of compensations for heat. According to the Ministry, 30,000 families are now entitled to such compensations. About 1,000 of them are from Chisinau. Before the November 28 early legislative elections, the Government offered by 130 lei in compensations for heat for November and December to the pensioners with pensions lower than 900 lei, even if they received other allowances as well.
