Chisinau on COVID-19 yellow alert again

After a period during which the capital city was on COVID-19 green alert, the municipality of Chisinau was put again on yellow alert owing to the rise in the number of new infections. According to the National Public Health Agency, the COVID-19 incidence rate in Moldova during the last 14 days was 26 cases per 100,000 people, Boris Gîlcă, deputy head of the General Social Assistance and Health Division, announced in the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, being quoted by IPN.

Boris Gîlcă stated for IPN that the yellow alert is instituted when the number of new cases of COVID-19 increases. On July 27, at 3pm, the Extraordinary Public Health Commission of Chisinau municipality will come together to discuss epidemiological aspects.

Boris Gîlcă noted that about 256,000 persons have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus in Chisinau by now. Even if the vaccination rate in the capital city is higher than at national level, there is no collective immunity yet. Four types of vaccine that are used globally are available in Chisinau. The previous weekend, the number of vaccinated persons rose considerably after new types of vaccine were brought.

More than 7,000 persons have been vaccinated at the mobile units (trolleys and bus) that were launched in Chisinau on May 26. 221 persons got vaccinated at the mobile units that stopped near the Central Market last Saturday and Sunday. The 70 COVID-19 immunization centers opened in Chisinau will continue working on the weekend.

Boris Gîlcă also said that the wearing of masks in closed public places, on public transport, at bus and trolleybus stations and at events involving many people remains mandatory in Chisinau.
