The Chisinau municipality needs 200 million lei to clean and revamp its rainwater drainage system. Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu told the City Hall's ordinary meeting on Monday that there are at least 11 problematic zones in the city where drains are either heavily clogged or are missing, Info-Prim Neo reports. The most problematic zones are along the streets Albisoara, Muncesti, Inculet, Uzinelor, Pan Halippa, Ghioceilor and Stefan cel Mare Boulevard. “All the problems would be gone if we had funds to build drains and also if we were able to clean the river Byk”, said Nistor Grozavu. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said the issue of collecting rainwater is old and its solution is costly. “If we decided to give up spending on the entire city for three years, maybe we could put an end to this rainwater drainage issue. The absence of drains along some streets in the city obviously results in huge amounts of rainwater being accumulated when it rains heavily, and this is an issue which has its roots in the past”. Last week, the municipality kicked off a 90-percent-EU-funded project to clean rainwater drains along the streets Halta and Tabacaria Veche.
