The Chisinau City Hall will allocate 4 million lei for the reconstruction of Saint Matron Church, which burned to ashes about a week ago. Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu said during the City Hall’s meeting that the money will be enough only for a basic reconstruction, but not yet for finishing works, Info-Prim Neo reports. Instead of the old, wooden structure, a new stone church will be built. “The structure itself will cost about 2.5 million lei, according to architects’ estimations”, said Nistor Grozavu. Preliminary investigation showed that the fire was caused by arson, but the police haven't held any suspects yet. It was also suggested that the fire spread easily because the wood had not been processed properly. “If those responsible are not caught and punished, they’ll be encouraged to go on like this”, stated Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. The Saint Matron Church in La Izvor Park burned to ashes on Saturday, February 19.
