Chisinau moviegoers invited to Sergiu Nicolaescu’s movies

The Romanian Film Days were opened at the Odeon Center of Culture in Chisinau on Monday evening. The even is held in Chisinau for the first time and will continue until March 20. The cinema goers in Chisinau can watch movies of the renowned Romanian director Sergiu Nicolaescu. The Romanian Film Days were organized with the support of the Bucharest Cultural Association “Pro Bessarabia and Bucovina”, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We wanted to show the movies directed by Sergiu Nicolaescu so that the public could learn about the Romanian cinematography and about one of its greatest representatives. We chose the themes of the movies chronologically so as to present certain stages in the history of the Romanian film,” said Gabriela Ielenicz-Iov, the president of the National Council of the Cultural Association “Pro Bessarabia and Bucovina”. The Romanian Film Days started with the screening of the movie “Dacii” (“Dacians”), which is the first film made by director Sergiu Nicolaescu in 1967. The movies “Mihai Viteazul” (“Michael the Brave”), “Osanda” (“Condemnation”), “Ciuleandra” and “Supravietuitorul” (“The Survivor”) will be screened the next days, starting at 18.00. Entrance is free of charge. “Supravietuitorul” was made in 2008. The key parts are played by Sergiu Nicolaescu, George Mihaita, Vladimir Gaitan, Ileana Lazariuc, and Loredana Groza. “We want that the public gets to know this period and the works of this director through his movies,” Gabriela Ielenicz-Iov said. Sergiu Nicolaescu directed over 45 full-length films and different scenographies. He became known through “Dacii” (1967) and “Mihai Viteazul” (1970). The Romanian Film Festival will take place in Chisinau during 11-17 April, organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute with the support of the Embassy of Romania in Chisinau.
