Chisinau mayor to sign order concerning Europe Day

Mayor General of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca will make an order, which says that from next year Europe Day will be celebrated on May 9 in the Great National Assembly Square, not in Europe Square as now, IPN reports.

Gabriela Ciumac, head of the Foreign Relations Division, said that Europe Day this year will be marked in Chisinau on May 18. The European Union Delegation to Moldova never insists that Europe Day should be celebrated on May 9, when it is also marked the Victory Day against fascism, because it does not want to stir things up.

In this connection, Ciumac proposed that the Victory Day should be a day of commemoration for those who died in war, not a holiday, while Saint George’s ribbon that is carried on this day should be banned as it is not related to the national values.

Dorin Chirtoaca said an order will be signed to hold the Europe Day activities in the Great National Assembly Square on May 9, from next year. The Victory Day will be marked at the “Eternity” memorial on Pan Hallippa St.
