Chisinau mayor says parents should not be obliged to financially support schools and kindergartens
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca at Monday's meeting of the City Hall demanded that the parents should not be obliged to help financially the schools and kindergartens attended by their children, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The mayor said that according to the statute of a parent association at a kindergarten, the parents must pay a tax of 350 lei. The head of the Mayor General's office Lilian Carp analyzed the situation in a number of institutions. Discussing with the parents, he ascertained that many parent associations confuse the sponsorship with taxes. Therefore, there should be worked out a model statute for these associations.
Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, said that after receiving complaints from parents, they held a number of meetings with representatives of parent associations and discussed the necessity of devising a model statute. She also said that she informed a number of institutions about the violations identified by the parents.
The mayor asked systematizing the given complaints and providing an informative note about the measures taken. He called on the parents who are forced to pay different taxes to inform the local authorities about this.
Dorin Chirtoaca invited two persons to the meeting to relate about the functionaries' indifference. A 77-year-old man said that during 10 years he had fought to have a kiosk removed from his property. A young man who was brought up at a children's home in Drochia told that he lost his identification papers not long ago and had to sleep for several days on a bench in the square of the Organ Hall. After talking with the mayor, the man was sent to the center for homeless persons, but was not admitted there as he does not have a residence visa.
The mayor instructed the officials to solve the problems faced by the people, stressing that the indifferent ones will be held accountable. He said that more persons affected by the functionaries' indifference will be invited at the next meetings.
