Chisinau Mayor disagrees with official version of blast on Morosanu St.

Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has expressed his discontent with the course of the investigation into the explosion on Morosanu Street, which killed one person and injured badly two others last week, and doubted the official version according to which the blast was caused by a gas leak, claiming that, in fact, a grenade was to blame, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I understand that the police and the prosecutors would feel very uncomfortable about announcing that, shortly after there was shooting in downtown, a grenade caused a blast in a populous district of the city. The police did nothing to prevent it”, said Dorin Chirtoaca, at a City Hall's meeting on Monday. The mayor insisted investigators must find out how it was possible for the owner of the apartment, who had a criminal history, to have a grenade. The mayor also demanded more transparency in this case. “Regardless of whether the investigation continues or not, the cause must be announced immediately it's discovered, because not announcing this cause means more suspicions among the citizens”, said Chirtoaca. According to Chisinau's chief doctor Mihai Moldovanu, the two persons injured in the blast are still in hospital with severe injuries – one in the trauma surgery unit, and he other in the intensive care unit. Their condition is said to be serious but stable. The blast ripped through a Chisinau apartment last Friday at around 3:00 PM. It took three fire crews almost two hours to put out the blaze. No police representatives attended the City Hall's meeting to comment on the mayor's statements.
