Chisinau mayor demands population be warned about possible calamities
The Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked implementing a mechanism for warning the population about possible natural disasters, Info-Prim Neo reports.
It is very important that the population is warned through the agency of special systems and through mass media about sudden meteorological changes, the mayor said at Monday’s meeting of the Chisinau City Hall.
The mayor refereed to the two tragic cases that happened in villages of Ialoveni district. Two children aged 11 from Malcoci village were struck by lightning. One of them died on the spot, while the other one was taken to the hospital and is now in the intensive care section. A three-year-old child from Costesti village was electrocuted by electric cables broken by the wind.
According to the Green Spaces Association and the Chisinau Emergencies Division, Saturday’s storm caused havoc in Chisinau. The strong wind uprooted 42 trees, mainly in Buiucani district. The trees downed on Renasterii Blvd. destroyed power lines. A tree that fell on Aldea-Teodorovici St damaged three cars. Nine cars were damaged overall.
