The general mayor of the Chisinau municipality, Dorin Chirtoaca, says he was the target of more bribing attempts, Info-Prim Neo reports. The mayor made such statements at Monday’s sitting of the City Hall, within the context of examining the work of the commissions inspecting the shopping units after the blast at the Jumbo trade center. According to Dorin Chirtoaca, the last attempt took place right before the sitting. The mayor says he was stopped on the hall, on his way to the sitting, by a citizen interested in granting him material aid. The mayor says it is for the second time when that person, proprietor of a bread booth, tries to bribe him. Also the mayor says earlier the representative of a construction firm proposed him a bribe of 10,000 lei in an envelope, as a gift under the Christmas Tree. Chirtoaca supposes he is not the only functionary to whom such incidents happen and that they are much more frequent at lower hierarchic levels. This was one of the motives invoked by the mayor to further support the work of the joint commissions inspecting the work of companies. “When there are more people from more subdivisions in a commission, such attempts are much harder to realize,” Dorin Chirtoaca specified. The capital’s chief says he won’t admit corruption cases among the City Hall employees and promises the functionary caught red-handed will be fired the day after. Then it is the police and the prosecutor’s office which shall do their job to punish the public servant as required by the law, the mayor added. At the same sitting, Dorin Chirtoaca remarked more complaints arrive at the City Hall from citizens blaming there appear intermediaries in solving their petitions. The mayor demanded the functionaries to warn the petitioners not to wait to have their problems solved through intermediaries, saying they share the bribe with the functionaries. In the same context, the mayor urged the public servants, and the subdivision chiefs firstly, to publish their income declarations for 2007, within the campaign „Property in Sight,” started by the “Obiectiv” anticorruption paper published by the Association of Independent Press (API) and the Anti-corruption Alliance. Dorin Chirtoaca declared, within this campaign, the incomes he got 2007, and the real estate and securities he now possess. The general mayor received 67,156 lei on his job.
