Chisinau mayor asks police to insure public order during protests announced for Friday

Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca asks the municipal police to insure the public order during the protests announced to occur on Friday, April 10. He told a news conference that the request was connected to the fact that rumors were running on the Internet that youths could resume the protests, and they would be joined by citizens from the whole country, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Chirtoaca, the organizer of the announced manifestations is not known. He called to calmness and asked the demonstrators to protest peacefully and not to stay on the Great National Assembly Square after 8-9 p.m. In case the number of protesters is not big, the traffic on Stefan cel Mare avenue will not be disturbed, the mayor said. He also urged the police not restrict the right to peaceful manifestations, to isolate only the aggressive people and to make public the list of the people detained for the incidents of April 7, and to free the ones arrested illegally. Otherwise the City Hall will address the Prosecutor's Office and even the international bodies dealing with human rights protection, Dorin Chirtoaca stated. He also said the City Hall authorized the European Action Movement to protest in front of the public broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova” from April 9 through 29 against the election results and misinforming the people by the public broadcaster.
