Chisinau mayor aims to bring habit of eating sunflower seeds in parks to an end

The persons who will eat sunflower seeds in public areas in Chisinau and will litter the place will be punished. A request to this effect was made by mayor general of Chisinau municipality Ion Ceban after inspecting the Park “La Izvor”, IPN reports.

“I walked from bench to bench and there were people eating sunflower seeds at each of the benches. I understand that this is a “national sport”. They tried to convince me that this is biodegradable material and also that the sludge is thus covered and there is no mud there,” the mayor stated in the February 3 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and subdivisions.

Ion Ceban also asked to block the access of motor vehicles to the recreation area of the Park “La Izvor” as these visitors often listen to music at the highest volume and also leave waste behind them. “We didn’t forget about the proposal to impose fines on those who litter the place. Currently, the Legal Division is working out the regulations concerning the cleanup of areas and maintaining of public and sanitary order and these will stipulate punishment for throwing waste in public places,” he stated.

The mayor also spoke about the littering of the area under the viaduct in Botanica district. Almost 30 trucks of waste were collected from that area last week. It was decided to set up surveillance cameras there so as to identify and penalize the persons who leave waste there.
