Since the opening of the mother-child maternal placement center in Chisinau in July 2023, 11 mothers with 22 children have crossed its threshold. The municipality noted that the center is an oasis of support and prevention of abandonment. It is a free and confidential service that operates non-stop, IPN reports.
The first maternal center for mothers and for children older than six years in the capital was created to prevent severe domestic violence and the separation of children from their mothers. The center offers accommodation, a safe and supportive environment for mothers with children who are victims of domestic violence or human trafficking, services for developing parental skills of mothers in situations of social risk, psychological counseling.
Those who need the services of the maternal center can call the specialists of the General Division for the Protection of the Rights of the Child on 067100144 or the Emergency Service 112. The telephone lines are available rond-the-clock.
The service was developed within the partnership between the Chisinau City Hall and UNICEF Moldova, with financial support from the French Government. The center can simultaneously accommodate seven mother-child couples for a period of six months, with the possibility of extending the placement for another six months, if necessary. Since October, the municipality has ensured the sustainability of the service at the expense of the municipal budget.
