Chisinau-Leuseni Roadway to be opened only after independent laboratory investigations

The National and International Roadway Chisinau – Leuseni will be put into operation only after it will be investigated and given positive notice by an independent laboratory, PM Vasile Tarlev says. The persons in charge from the Ministry of Transports and Road Management, as well as the general entrepreneur said that the pace of the works is normal, and if the financial means will be provided in time, the Roadway Chisinau – Leuseni will be put into operation at the end of September. Vasile Tarlev mentioned that the autobahn Chisinau-Leuseni is the first European-standard roadway from Moldova and has to be finished as fast as possible, but the quality standards have to be respected too. Chisinau-Leuseni Roadway has a length of 99 km. 65 km of the road are ready so far. The project started in 2006. The PM was previously saying that the modernisation and refurbishment of the national roads is very expensive. According to him, a kilometre of roadway with two lanes on this roadway costs MDL 6 mln. The authorities said they allotted about MDL 1 bln from the state budget for roads. Also, USD 100 mln were used for the reconstruction of the roadways – credits from the World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and European Investment Bank. The Government plans to refurbish in the future the following roadways: Cimislia-Comrat, Causeni-Palanca, Orhei-Rezina, Chisinau-Balti, Chisinau-Cimislia and Valea Perjei-Cimislia.
