Almost a half of children enrolled in Chisinau's kindergartens don't attend them in this period. According to the municipal Education Directorate head Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, attendance dropped by roughly 40%, IPN reports.

Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb told the City Hall's ordinary meeting on Monday that many parents have vacations now and they prefer to leave their children at home. School students are also on winter break and have time to look after their younger siblings.

There are over 150 pre-school institutions in Chisinau servicing more than 36,000 children. According to the kindergartens' rules, parents may leave their children at home for up to 75 days a year.
