The director a Chisinau kindergarten was arrested on charges of corruption. She is suspected of asking for and taking 1,800 lei from a couple for admitting their child to the kindergarten. The woman was placed under arrest for 72 hours, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, the denouncer said they were initially told to pay 800 lei for having the child enrolled and were later told to pay another 1,000 lei in cash as the first sum was too small. Afterward the parents were issued with orders for paying 1,000 lei in tax for joining the parents association and 350 lei in association membership dues for September 2017.
The director was arrested at the workplace and was escorted to the National Anticorruption Center for questioning. She faces up to ten years in jail for passive corruption.
The Center calls on the persons who were forced to pay particular illegal taxes in schools or kindergartens to submit a complaint.
