The official Chisinau will provide all the necessary expertise in the case of the two border guards from the Transnistrian region who were shot at the border with Ukraine, one of them mortally, if it is requested. Such requests haven’t been received yet, said the Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă.
“Given that we are talking about jurisdictions, when we have additional information, those who are in charge will make it public,” Daniel Vodă told a press conference. Asked by journalists if the two Transnistrians hold the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, Daniel Vodă said that he doesn’t know this, but will inquiry about it.
The authorities in Tiraspol announced that in an incident with the use of firearms near the border with Ukraine on January 10, two persons were kidnapped and taken to Ukraine. A day later, Ukraine denied these statements. Representatives of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine said then that they didn’t know about any incident on the Transnistrian segment of the border with Moldova and called the statements provocative. Recently, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Moldova Marko Shevchenko confirmed yet the shooting incident in an interview. According to him, two residents of the Transnistrian region crossed the border with Ukraine illegally and opened fire on Ukrainian law enforcement officers, who responded with gunshots. As a result, one person died and another one was injured.
