Chisinau is obliged to have good relations with Moscow, Marian Lupu
Moldova needs a consensual relation with Russia, not a conflict one, considers the leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu. According to him, any Moldovan politician that has a different opinion does not understand or does not want to understand what Moldova’s national interests are, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Marian Lupu made related statements during a press briefing on September 17, upon his return from Moscow, where he signed a cooperation agreement with the United Russia Party headed by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. “Geographically, politically and economically, Chisinau is obliged to have good relations with Moscow,” Lupu said.
The Democrat leader criticized the actions of some of the Moldovan politicians who sacrificed the national economic interests at foreign policy level. “Too much fuss was made around such topics as the Transnistrian conflict and the illusion of Moldova’s union with Romania, while the economic and pragmatic side of the foreign policy was forgotten,” Marian Lupu said.
He also said that Moldova must count on its own forces and not wait for assistance from outside. “What should we do? Shall we expect that Traian Basescu (Romania’s President – e.n.) regain credibility in Romania and come to help us? Shall we wait for the Europeans to understand that we play an important role at the eastern border of the EU or for the Russians to bring money into Moldova without anyone offering them something tangible? Nothing of this will happen if we do not become pragmatic,” Marian Lupu said.
