Chisinau is committed to set priorities in interaction with NATO, minister

The authorities in Chisinau are interested in continuing the political dialogue and practical cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in areas of interest. In particular, it is committed to set the priorities in the interaction with NATO for 2020-2022 within the new Individual Partnership Action Plan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Aureliu Ciocoi stated in a meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană in Brussels, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the meeting Mircea Geoană said NATO supports the partnership with the Republic of Moldova and will support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and the respect for its neutrality status.

The NATO official approved of Moldova’s contribution to strengthening security in Europe by taking part in the KFOR peacekeeping operation in Kosovo. He expressed the NATO’s readiness to further support the reformation and modernization of Moldova based on Moldovan authorities’ requests.

The interlocutors also discussed other subjects related to the priorities of the Moldova – NATO cooperation agenda, including the designing of a new Individual Partnership Action Plan, implementation of the NATO Assistance Package for strengthening the defense and security capacities of the Republic of Moldova and of projects within the Science for Peace and Security Program, cooperation in combating new threats to security and promotion of public diplomacy activities.
