Over 500 persons – businesspeople, economic experts, foreign investors and donors, representatives of the academic community and the NGO sector – are taking part in the 2022 Economic Forum “Invest in Chisinau”. The event also involves official delegations of the sister and partner cities of Chisinau. The investment map of the capital city, which includes over 69 facilities attractive to investors, is presented in the forum, IPN reports.
Mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban said that foreign direct investment last yearend came to 70 billion lei, while sales revenue totaled more than 347 billion lei. Over 800,000 square meters of residential and non-residential spaces were made available by the building sector last year. Despite the difficult conditions, the municipality managed to treble capital investments compared with the last three years, in times of a pandemic, economic and energy crisis.
“Over 1 million people live or work daily in Chisinau. This is almost half of the population of the Republic of Moldova, especially the active population. Some 48% of the salary earners are in Chisinau, according to the data for December 2021. Over 70% of the national economic activity is concentrated in Chisinau, as are the payers of taxes and tariffs. That’s why we say that we need to provide opportunities, to create conditions, to do so that things develop further. We develop permanently,” stated Ion Ceban.
Deputy mayor Olga Ursu said the municipality of Chisinau can become a regional investment attraction pole. “In Chisinau, there are concentrated over 37,000 companies that employ more than 320,000 people and have an annual turnover of over 400 billion lei. This is a huge figure that incorporates over 60% of the country’s activity and the activity performed in Chisinau forms the budget of the whole country. The transformation started and we are determined to continue. We know very well what matters for an investor when this wants to invest. It is very important to ensure a legal and transparent framework, common conditions for everyone, predictability and safety. This is what we aim to do – to remove obstacles, to minimize bureaucracy,” stated the deputy mayor.
Attending the event, the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergiu Harea said that the forum involves over 400 members of CCI Moldova. “I want to congratulate the team that planned this event on what we call an investment map. You will know exactly where, what and how much to invest. It is important to know that you have who to conduct a public-private dialogue with, similar to the dialogue we have with the Chisinau City Hall based on the business agenda. Transparency is the most important aspect of an investment. Those who want to invest should invest in the Republic of Moldova in general and in the municipality of Chisinau in particular, as in a reliable partner,” noted Sergiu Harea
The 2022 Economic Forum “Invest in Chisinau” continues on October 1. The event aims to build bridges with potential investors and to stimulate the implementation of investment projects, which would offer benefits to the business community and would support the building of a modern city with developed infrastructure and high-quality services, offering this way better living conditions for the residents.
