Chisinau interim mayor accuses police of dangerous driving in municipality

The interim mayor of the capital Vasile Ursu has requested the head of Chisinau Road Police (RP) Grigore Guzun to submit proposals for amending the administrative Code with a view to increasing the responsibility of the participants in traffic, Info-Prim Neo reports. At Monday’s sitting of the City Hall, Ursu has resumed the discussion started at the previous sitting, when he expressed his indignation about the dangerous driving in the capital. In retort, Grigore Guzun stated that the road accidents are occurring not only because the drivers and pedestrians break the traffic rules, but also because of the lack of the corresponding road marking, road signs and bad illuminated streets. Meanwhile, the City Hall adopted a plan of actions intended to redress the situation in the field of the traffic security until 2009, without consulting the Traffic Police. At Monday’s sitting Ursu said that “there are too many road signs in the capital”, and the drivers “do not look at them”. Interim mayor sought to make the drivers answerable for not following the speed limits, pointing especially to the owners of luxury cars. At the same time, Ursu confirmed that the number of policemen is insufficient, requesting the RP head to formulate proposals in this respect too.
