Chisinau insists on international standards for registering vehicles in Transnistria
The institution of a functional mechanism for registering vehicles in the Transnistrian region, by allotting license numbers of the new type, will be possible only when these procedures, the agreed model of the registration certificates and other elements of the mechanism meet the international standards in the field of transport. Such a position was stated by the Moldovan delegation after the March 14 negotiations held in Tiraspol.
According to a communiqué from the Reintegration Office, the model of the license plates for Transnistrian vehicles involved in international passenger and freight transportation was agreed in the meeting. The number will be written with black paint and will have series “AB” followed by five digits imprinted on white background. In order to increase the security level, the plates will contain a set of neutral holographic symbols.
The Moldovan delegation pointed to the recent unilateral actions of Tiraspol, in particular the confiscation of the Moldovan license plates, the intentions to put discriminatory charges for public utilities on certain categories of people living in the region, and the discussions concerning the putting of the Russian ruble into circulation in Transnistria.
Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov requested not taking actions that can undermine the atmosphere of trust between the two banks of the Nistru. The international partners taking part in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format were asked to contribute to the solving of the mentioned problems.
The meeting took place at the OSCE Head Office in Tiraspol and involved representatives of the mediators and observers to the talks in the 5+2 format.
